This program builds the foundation and basics for a reliable gun dog and is also designed to prepare dogs for NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) testing. The program can be split into two separate one-month sessions, if needed.

Training includes:

• Basic obedience for field work
• Proper e-collar introduction and collar conditioning
• Safe, confidence-building gunfire introduction to prevent gun sensitivity
• Bird introduction and prey drive development
• Point establishment for pointing breeds or flush confidence for flushing breeds
• Water introduction and confidence building

Puppy Program$1500

This program is ideal for dogs that have completed the Puppy Program or have one or more hunting seasons of experience.
Training includes:

• Steady to shot training (holding point until the bird is shot)
• Delivery to hand on every retrieve (left-side delivery at WWBD)
• Whoa training to reinforce steadiness and eliminate unwanted movement
• Tracking and retrieving wounded or dead birds
• Search pattern development and whistle handling (your steering wheel to your dog)
• Duck hunting preparation, including:
  
• Steadiness to shot
• Sitting on place in the blind
• Marking drills that simulate real hunting situations

For testing dogs, this program prepares dogs for NAVHDA Gun Dog Test (GDT) and the early stages of Utility Test (UT) (some Utility dogs can be completed within this timeframe). It is also an excellent foundation for National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) competition dogs. Training is customized to meet each handler and dog's goals.

Afternoons are for drills, water introductions, gunfire introductions, and back up to nap. Evenings are our famous “free walks” on GPS with a person either walking or on a side by side. This is where dogs are encouraged to be dogs –run around, pee on stuff, sniff things, & generally have fun. However, all walks are in wild chukar country, so the bird-savvy ones may just find something to learn on.

For testing dogs, this program prepares dogs for NAVHDA Gun Dog Test (GDT) and the early stages of Utility Test (UT) (some Utility dogs can be completed within this timeframe). Gun Dog Programm$4000

After completing the Gun Dog Program, dogs transition to month-to-month advanced training. This also includes wild bird training programs.

Training focuses on producing a fully broke/finished dog, including:

• -Steady through wing, shot, and fall
• Blind retrieves
• Dead broke on all birds
• Steady until released during all marking situations

This is where we make gun dogs and enhance genetics. An early wakeup call, and everyone is let out to air out in the yard to start the day. Then the dogs kennel up, before getting ready to start working.

These dogs will be doing more drill, skillset work. Before doing field or water sessions, we do the “work & drills” associated with the task before going to the big stuff. Here at WWBD, we believe the trained skills create the desired action. We train your dog to master the tasks, not pass a test. We do these sessions first to allow us to mold the desired behavior in the field or water. Everyone goes back to their kennel to relax before going off for the bigger task of the day.

After the field, water, or a combination of the two, dogs will be able to have fun either in the yard or out for a group run/walk in “wild bird country.”

Dogs that are at different phases — like force-fetch, whoa breaking, etc. — will likely be brought back out for an evening session, then dinner and a little more yard time before bed.

We have wild birds on the property & on adjoining BLM/public land. Dogs in this phase are routinely brought out for a run in this area to keep their wild bird hunting skills fresh. A walk in the Johnny House birds will also get mixed in.

Although not a full time breeder we do have a stud dog available. Also we offer a couple arranged breedings per year out of dogs that we feel are very special and meet the characteristics we want to train and hunt over.
